The Queen Saowapha Snake Farm is run by the Thai Red Cross. It makes snakebite serums and informs the public about local snakes. Unlike the tourist oriented farms, the emphasis is on education. Demonstrations of venom milking take place twice daily (once daily on weekends), preceded by an explanatory slide show. Handlers open a snake’s mouth and pierce the cellophane lid of a glass jar with its fangs. The milky venom then squirts harmlessly into the jar.
