Thailand’s main art gallery, housed in the old mint building, was established in 1977. It concentrates on modern Thai and international art. Initially the gallery suffered from lack of funds, but in 1989 further wings were added. The high ceilinged, spacious halls now attract exhibitions from all over Asia. Temporary shows of prominent Asian artists are often better than many of the permanent exhibits. Modern art can also be found at the Bangkok Art and Culture Center. Check the Bangkok Post for other exhibitions in the city.
