Khao Lak Coast

Posted By : chauthihoaithuong/ 5 0

The coastline south of Takua Pa consists of long stretches of rocky and sandy beaches. Commercial development is on the rise and a variety of accommodation can now be found here. Khao Lak, halfway between Takua Pa and Thai Muang, has a fine beach and is a good base from which to explore the area.

The nearby Khao Lak (Lam Ru) National Park is famous for its scenery: steep ridges of monsoon forest extend to the winding coast. Barking deer and small bears are among the wildlife living in the forest but, sadly, the park is plagued by encroachment and poaching. The Similan Islands are only 4 hours away by boat, and many visitors come here to book their dive trips. Between November and April, Tap Lamu fishing port and Hat Khao Lak operate as ferry points for Ko Similan. Badly hit by the 2004 tsunami, this coast has now made a full recovery.
