Dan Kwian

Posted By : admin/ 101 0

Southeast of Khorat is Dan Kwian, first inhabited in the mid-18th century by the Mon people traveling east from the Burmese border. Since then it has become famous for its rustcolored pottery, derived from the high iron content of the local clay. Today Dan Kwian is essentially a collection of ceramics factories, many of which can export large items for tourists. Shops selling the local pottery line the highway at the entrance point to the village. Items for sale include jewelry, elaborately decorated vases, often in the form of upstanding fish, chickenshaped plant pots, leaf-shaped wind chimes, and traditional water jars
