Assumption Cathedral

Assumption Cathedral

This Romanesque-style brick edifice was built in 1910 on the site of an earlier cathedral. Its rose window is flanked by twin squat towers. The richly ornamented, Rococo interior is dominated by a lofty, barrel-arched blue ceiling patterned with gold starbursts.

The cathedral faces a tree shaded piazza, the site of several other Western-style buildings. These include the modern Assumption College, the Neo-Classical Catholic Mission, and the Renaissance-style Catholic Center
